Adulterants of Substitutes ::

The isapgol seeds are adulterated with the seeds of plant known as plantago lanceolata which are oblong elliptical in shape and yellowish -brown in colour The swelling factor of the seed is approximately 5 

    Plantago asiatica Linn found in Andhra pradesh and Tamil Nadu is also used as substitute to isapgol seeds 

Psyllium Seeds (Flea -seeds) ::

These are the seeds of the plant known as Plantago psyllium (Plantaginaceae) Their active constituent is mucilage and are used as substitute to isapgol psyllium seeds are produced commercially in France and Spain

ये प्लांटैगो साइलियम (प्लांटाजिनेसी) नामक पौधे के बीज हैं। इनका सक्रिय घटक म्यूसिलेज है और इन्हें इस्पगोल के विकल्प के रूप में उपयोग किया जाता है। साइलियम के बीज फ्रांस और स्पेन में व्यावसायिक रूप से उत्पादित किए जाते हैं।
