The drug contains traces of alkaloids harmine and harman Additionally they contain saponins which on hydrolysis yield steroidal sapogenins like diosgenin gitogenin chlorogenin and ruscogenin The roots and leaves also contain saponin Flavonoids kaemferol tribuloside and its derivatives have also been isolated from the leaves and fruits fixed oil (3.5 %) resin traces of essential oil and nitrates are the other constituents of the fruits fatty oil possesses excellent drying properties .

Uses ::
Fruits are used as diuretic tonic and also in the treatment of calculous affections and painful micturition They are also used as aphrodisiac and in gout Gokhru is a common ingredient of ayurvedic preparations Dashamoolarishta and Chyavanprash Bara gokhru is used as a diuretic and in dysuria and gonorrhoea .

पेडालिएसी (पेडालियासी) के सूखे फलों को बड़ा गोखरू के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह पौधा भारत के समुद्री तट पर पाया जाता है। फलों में फैटी ऑयल, म्यूसिलेज, एक एल्कलॉइड और रेजिन होता है।
इस्तेमाल ::
फलों का इस्तेमाल डाइयूरेटिक टॉनिक के तौर पर और पथरी की बीमारियों और दर्दनाक पेशाब के इलाज में भी किया जाता है। इनका इस्तेमाल कामोत्तेजक और गठिया में भी किया जाता है। गोखरू आयुर्वेदिक दवाओं दशमूलारिष्ट और च्यवनप्राश का एक आम इंग्रीडिएंट है। बड़ा गोखरू का इस्तेमाल डाइयूरेटिक के तौर पर और डिस्यूरिया और गोनोरिया में किया जाता है।
