Biological Source ::

It consists of dried fully ripen fruits of the plant Tribulus terrestris Linn. ( Family : Zygophyllaceae) and should contain not less than 0.5 % of diosgenin on dried basis .

Geographical Distribution :: 

The drug is found widely distributed in warmer regions of the world Gokhru occurs throughout india sri lanka and in west tibet it flowers in rainy season and is collected in October and November it is a prostrate annual or biennial .

Organoleptic Characters :: 

Colour : Fruits are greenish to grey 

Odour : Odourless 

Taste : Bitter 

Size : 1.0 to 1.5 cm 

Shape : Fruits are globose , consisting of 5 to 10 woody cocci each with two pairs of hard sharp divergent spines .

The roots also form the part of the drug The roots are cylindrical and faintly aromatic .

यह ट्रिबुलस टेरेस्ट्रिस लिन पौधे के सूखे, पूरी तरह पके फलों से बना होता है। (फ़ैमिली : ज़ाइगोफ़िलेसी) और सूखे होने पर इसमें 0.5% से कम डायोसजेनिन नहीं होना चाहिए।

यह दवा दुनिया के गर्म इलाकों में बड़े पैमाने पर पाई जाती है। गोखरू पूरे भारत, श्रीलंका और पश्चिमी तिब्बत में होता है। यह बारिश के मौसम में फूलता है और अक्टूबर और नवंबर में इकट्ठा किया जाता है। यह एक फैला हुआ सालाना या दो साल में होने वाला पौधा है।
