IPECACUANHA CHEMICAL TESTS ::

Uses ::
Ipecacuanha is used as an emetic in the form of syrup it is also expectorant in small doses in large doses it produces diarrhoea due to irritation Ipecacuanha (emetine ) is used in the treatment of amoebic dysentery . Ipecacuanha causes violent sneezing coughing due to nasal and laryngeal irritation Ipecac with opium (Dover s powder ) is given as a diaphoretic .
Pharmaceutically Ipecacuanha is used for isolation of emetine and cephaeline Rio ipecacuanha contains about 2.5 % of total alkaloids of which 50- 70 % is emetine . Panama variety contains 2.8 % of total alkaloids comprising 30 - 50 % of emetine .

उपयोग::
इपेकाकुआन्हा का उपयोग सिरप के रूप में उबकाई लाने वाले के रूप में किया जाता है, यह छोटी खुराक में कफ निस्सारक भी है इपेकाकुआन्हा से नाक और गले में जलन की वजह से तेज़ छींकें और खांसी होती है। इपेकाक को ओपियम (डोवर का पाउडर) के साथ मिलाकर डायफोरेटिक के तौर पर दिया जाता है।
फार्मास्युटिकल तौर पर इपेकाकुआन्हा का इस्तेमाल एमेटीन और सेफेलाइन को अलग करने के लिए किया जाता है। रियो इपेकाकुआन्हा में कुल एल्कलॉइड का लगभग 2.5% होता है, जिसमें से 50-70% एमेटीन होता है। पनामा वैरायटी में कुल एल्कलॉइड का 2.8% होता है, जिसमें 30-50% एमेटीन होता है।
