Myrrh is an oleo -gum -resin obtained from Commiphora molmol Engler and other Commiphora species it belongs to family Burseraceae .

Geographical Source :: 

It is found in North East Africa and Southern Arabia .

Collection and Preparation for Market :: 

One of the characteristics of the family Burseraceae is that the plants possess oleo - resinous canals in their conducting tissue .

            The plants are small shrubs or tress about 3 m in height . The plants exude yellowish - coloured resin when the incisions are made in the bark of the tree it gradually hardens and becomes dark or reddish brown in colour This coagulated mass is collected in goat skins by the native tribals and sent to the market .

Colour : Externally it is reddish - brown , internally brown .

Odour and taste : Aromatic and agreeable .

Size : About 1.5 to 3.0 cm in diameter .

Shape : it is found in the form of rounded or irregular tears .

Extra Features ::

The fractured surface of the drug is somewhat granular it is brittle and shows transluscent surface whitish spots on broken pieces are also seen .

पौधे छोटी झाड़ियाँ या पेड़ होते हैं जिनकी ऊँचाई लगभग 3 m होती है। जब पेड़ की छाल में चीरा लगाया जाता है तो पौधों से पीले रंग का रेज़िन निकलता है। यह धीरे-धीरे सख्त हो जाता है और गहरे या लाल भूरे रंग का हो जाता है। इस जमे हुए पदार्थ को स्थानीय आदिवासी बकरी की खाल में इकट्ठा करके बाज़ार भेजते हैं।
