 CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY MODULES (CDDM) ::

Controlled drug delivery modules are devices which are formed by embedding the drug within a polymeric matrix so that it gets released slowly to the body over a very long period of time The polymeric matrices used to hold the drug reversibly are polyethylenes silicone elastomers and cellulose esters The drug - polymer complex may be formulated into tablet capsule or any other suitable formulation These controlled drug delivery modules are punctured before administration with laser beam to make a small orifice of a few microns in diameter for the release of the drug The drug is released from these modules by diffusion osmosis or chemical reaction . 

            Controlled drug delivery modules can be applied to the skin implanted subcutaneously or inserted into various body cavities The CDDM has an advantage because there is an unattended drug delivery with out any patient intervention .

कंट्रोल्ड ड्रग डिलीवरी मॉड्यूल ऐसे डिवाइस होते हैं जो दवा को एक पॉलीमेरिक मैट्रिक्स में डालकर बनाए जाते हैं ताकि यह बहुत लंबे समय तक शरीर में धीरे-धीरे रिलीज़ हो। दवा को रिवर्सिबली होल्ड करने के लिए इस्तेमाल होने वाले पॉलीमेरिक मैट्रिक्स पॉलीइथाइलीन, सिलिकॉन इलास्टोमर और सेल्यूलोज एस्टर होते हैं। दवा-पॉलिमर कॉम्प्लेक्स को टैबलेट कैप्सूल या किसी दूसरे सही फॉर्मूलेशन में बनाया जा सकता है। इन कंट्रोल्ड ड्रग डिलीवरी मॉड्यूल को देने से पहले लेज़र बीम से पंचर किया जाता है ताकि दवा को रिलीज़ करने के लिए कुछ माइक्रोन डायमीटर का एक छोटा छेद बन सके। इन मॉड्यूल से दवा डिफ्यूजन ऑस्मोसिस या केमिकल रिएक्शन से रिलीज़ होती है।

कंट्रोल्ड ड्रग डिलीवरी मॉड्यूल को स्किन पर लगाया जा सकता है, सबक्यूटेनियसली इम्प्लांट किया जा सकता है या शरीर की अलग-अलग कैविटी में डाला जा सकता है। CDDM का एक फायदा यह है कि इसमें बिना किसी पेशेंट के दखल के दवा की डिलीवरी होती है।
