 ERYTHROCYTES  :: 

Erythrocytes have also been tried in order to achieve controlled release of drugs The life span of an erythrocyte is about 120 days Erythrocytes can allow a drug to circulate in the body for a long time which helps in the slow release of drug in serum when the drug is encapsulated in eryhthrocytes the drug gets leaked out of its cell over to prolonged period of time Moreover it can be sent to the specified sites . 

Resealed erythrocytes are prepared by putting them into a hypotonic medium so that they can be swollen The aqueous solution of the drug is added to the medium so that the drug gets into erythrocytes through the open pores when the isotonicity is adjusted the erythrocytes shrink thus encapsulating the drug within them These erythrocytes may be suspended in normal saline solution for preparing injections .

Resealed erythrocytes technique as drug carrier is very promising but it is difficult to arrange a large quantity of these erythrocytes The techniques can be used on commercial scale only if erythrocytes are made available in test tubes . 

Applications ::

1. Resealed erythrocytes of urease have been used in kidney failure to degrade serum urea . 

2. Resealed erythrocytes of asparaginase have shown good results in asparaginase dependent leukaemia . 

3. Resealed erythrocytes of methotrexate and adrianycin have been tried in cancer therapy it has shown good results . 

4. Resealed erythrocytes of prednisolone have shown good results to prolong the antiinflammatory action .

रीसील्ड एरिथ्रोसाइट्स को हाइपोटोनिक मीडियम में डालकर तैयार किया जाता है ताकि वे सूज सकें। दवा का एक्वस सॉल्यूशन मीडियम में मिलाया जाता है ताकि दवा खुले पोर्स के ज़रिए एरिथ्रोसाइट्स में जाए। जब ​​आइसोटोनिसिटी एडजस्ट हो जाती है, तो एरिथ्रोसाइट्स सिकुड़ जाते हैं और इस तरह दवा उनके अंदर एनकैप्सुलेट हो जाती है। इन एरिथ्रोसाइट्स को इंजेक्शन बनाने के लिए नॉर्मल सलाइन सॉल्यूशन में सस्पेंड किया जा सकता है।

ड्रग कैरियर के तौर पर रीसील्ड एरिथ्रोसाइट्स तकनीक बहुत उम्मीद जगाने वाली है, लेकिन इन एरिथ्रोसाइट्स की बड़ी मात्रा का इंतज़ाम करना मुश्किल है। इस तकनीक का कमर्शियल लेवल पर इस्तेमाल तभी किया जा सकता है जब एरिथ्रोसाइट्स टेस्ट ट्यूब में उपलब्ध हों।

एप्लीकेशन ::

1. यूरिया के रीसील्ड एरिथ्रोसाइट्स का इस्तेमाल किडनी फेलियर में सीरम यूरिया को कम करने के लिए किया गया है।

2. एस्परैगाइनेज के रीसील्ड एरिथ्रोसाइट्स ने एस्परैगाइनेज पर निर्भर ल्यूकेमिया में अच्छे नतीजे दिखाए हैं।

3. मेथोट्रेक्सेट और एड्रियानाइसिन के रीसील्ड एरिथ्रोसाइट्स को कैंसर थेरेपी में आज़माया गया है, इसके अच्छे नतीजे मिले हैं।

4. प्रेडनिसोलोन के रीसील्ड एरिथ्रोसाइट्स ने एंटीइंफ्लेमेटरी एक्शन को लंबा करने के लिए अच्छे नतीजे दिखाए हैं।
