 PASTES  :: 

Pastes are semi solid preparations intended for external application to the skin They differ from ointment as they contain a high proportion of finely powdered medicaments such as zinc oxide calcium carbonate starch etc These substances make the paste very thick and stiff moreover pastes are less greasy than ointments The stiffness property of paste makes them useful as protective coatings They are used mainly as antiseptic protective or soothing dressings which are often spread on lint before being applied Pastes should be stored and supplied in containers made of materials which do not allow absorption or diffusion of the contents .

Jellies ::

Jellies are transparent or translucent non -greasy semi -solid preparations mainly used for external application to the skin These are also used for lubricating catheters surgical gloves and rectal thermometers . The substances like gelatin starch tragacanth sodium alginate and cellulose derivative are used in the preparation of jellies These are now becoming popular for contraceptive purposes and contain surfactants to enhance the supermicidal properties of the jelly .

जेली ट्रांसपेरेंट या ट्रांसलूसेंट, नॉन-ग्रीसी, सेमी-सॉलिड चीज़ें होती हैं जिन्हें मुख्य रूप से स्किन पर बाहर से लगाने के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। इनका इस्तेमाल कैथेटर, सर्जिकल ग्लव्स और रेक्टल थर्मामीटर को लुब्रिकेट करने के लिए भी किया जाता है। जेली बनाने में जिलेटिन, स्टार्च, ट्रैगाकैंथ, सोडियम एल्जिनेट और सेल्यूलोज डेरिवेटिव जैसी चीज़ों का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। ये अब कॉन्ट्रासेप्टिव मकसद के लिए पॉपुलर हो रही हैं और इनमें जेली के सुपरमाइसिडल गुणों को बढ़ाने के लिए सर्फेक्टेंट होते हैं।
