 DRYING ::

Before marketing a crude drug it is necessary to process it properly so as to preserve it for a longer time and also to acquire better pharmaceutical elegance 

    This processing includes several operations or treatments depending upon the source (animal or plant) of the crude drug and its chemical nature The drying is one of the processes of prime importance it consists of removal of sufficient moisture content of the crude drug so as to improve its quality and make it resistant to the growth of microorganisms The drying also inhibits partially the enzymatic reaction it facilitates pulverizing or grinding of a crude drug in certain drugs some special methods are required to be followed to attain specific standards e.g. fermentation in case of Cinnamomum zeylanicum bark and gentian roots The slicing and cutting to smaller pieces is done to enhance drying as in case of glycyrrhiza squill and calumba Depending upon the type of the chemical constituents a method of drying can be used for the crude drug the drying can be of two types ::

1.Natural (Sun-drying) 

2.Artificial

इस प्रसंस्करण में कच्ची दवा के स्रोत (पशु या पौधे) और उसकी रासायनिक प्रकृति के आधार पर कई ऑपरेशन या उपचार शामिल हैं। सुखाना सबसे महत्वपूर्ण प्रक्रियाओं में से एक है, इसमें कच्ची दवा की पर्याप्त नमी को हटाया जाता है, ताकि इसकी गुणवत्ता में सुधार हो और यह सूक्ष्मजीवों के विकास के लिए प्रतिरोधी बन जाए। सुखाने से एंजाइमेटिक प्रतिक्रिया भी आंशिक रूप से बाधित होती है, यह कच्ची दवा को चूर्णित करने या पीसने की सुविधा प्रदान करती है। कुछ दवाओं में विशिष्ट मानकों को प्राप्त करने के लिए कुछ विशेष तरीकों का पालन करने की आवश्यकता होती है, जैसे कि सिनामोमम ज़ेलेनिकम छाल और जेंटियन जड़ों के मामले में किण्वन। ग्लाइसीराइज़ा स्क्विल और कैलुम्बा के मामले में सुखाने को बढ़ाने के लिए छोटे टुकड़ों में काटना और काटना किया जाता है। रासायनिक घटकों के प्रकार के आधार पर, कच्ची दवा के लिए सुखाने की एक विधि का उपयोग किया जा सकता है। सुखाने के दो प्रकार हो सकते हैं::
