 CHEMICAL TESTS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF FIXED OILS OR FATS  ::

Fixed oils or fats can be confirmed by chemical test for glycerine which is produced by their hydrolysis the test is performed as under ::

(a) Using sodium hydroxide ::

Mix 1 ml of 1% copper sulphate solution and 5 drops of the fixed oil or fat then add 5 drops of 10% sodium hydroxide solution A clear blue solution is obtained which shows glycerine is present in the sample The cupric hydroxide formed in the reaction does not precipitate out as the same is soluble in glycerine 

(b) Using Sodium hydrogen sulphate ::

Take 5 drops of the sample in a test tube and add a pinch of sodium hydrogen sulphate pungent odour emanates from the tube indicating glycerine is present in the sample the pungent odour is due to the formation of aciotein

स्थिर तेलों या वसा की पुष्टि ग्लिसरीन के रासायनिक परीक्षण द्वारा की जा सकती है, जो उनके जल-अपघटन से उत्पन्न होता है। परीक्षण निम्नानुसार किया जाता है::

(क) सोडियम हाइड्रॉक्साइड का उपयोग::

1 मिलीलीटर 1% कॉपर सल्फेट घोल और स्थिर तेल या वसा की 5 बूँदें मिलाएँ, फिर 10% सोडियम हाइड्रॉक्साइड घोल की 5 बूँदें डालें। एक स्पष्ट नीला घोल प्राप्त होता है जो दर्शाता है कि नमूने में ग्लिसरीन मौजूद है। अभिक्रिया में बनने वाला क्यूप्रिक हाइड्रॉक्साइड अवक्षेपित नहीं होता क्योंकि यह ग्लिसरीन में घुलनशील होता है।

(ख) सोडियम हाइड्रोजन सल्फेट का उपयोग::

एक परखनली में नमूने की 5 बूँदें लें और उसमें एक चुटकी सोडियम हाइड्रोजन सल्फेट मिलाएँ। परखनली से एक तीखी गंध आती है जो दर्शाती है कि नमूने में ग्लिसरीन मौजूद है। तीखी गंध एसिटोटिन के निर्माण के कारण होती है।
