 LINCTUSES  :: 

Linctuses are viscous liquid and oral preparations that are generally prescribed for the relief of cough They contain medicaments which have demulcent sedative or expectorant action Linctuses should be taken in small doses sipped and swallowed slowly without diluting it with water in order to have the maximum and prolonged effect of medicaments . 

        Simple syrup is generally used as a vehicle for most of the linctuses Tolu syrup is preferred in certain cases because of its aromatic odour and flavour moreover it is believed to have a mild expectorant action e.g. 

CODEINE LINCTUS B.P.C. 

Codeine phosphate  3 g 

Lemon syrup  200 ml 

Benzoic acid solution  20 ml 

Chloroform spirit  20 ml 

Water  20 ml 

Compound tartrazine solution 10 ml 

Syrup to make      1000 ml . 

Weigh codeine phosphate and dissolve it in water heat gently if required Add benzoic acid solution compound tartrazine solution and chloroform spirit Add the lemon syrup and adjust the volume by adding more of syrup .

लिक्टस चिपचिपा लिक्विड और मुंह से ली जाने वाली दवाएं हैं जो आमतौर पर खांसी से राहत के लिए दी जाती हैं। इनमें ऐसी दवाएं होती हैं जिनमें शांत करने वाला, शामक या कफ निकालने वाला असर होता है। दवाओं का ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा और लंबे समय तक असर पाने के लिए, लिक्टस को पानी में मिलाए बिना धीरे-धीरे घूंट-घूंट करके निगलना चाहिए।

ज़्यादातर लिक्टस के लिए आमतौर पर सिंपल सिरप का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। टोलू सिरप कुछ मामलों में अपनी खुशबूदार गंध और स्वाद के कारण पसंद किया जाता है, इसके अलावा माना जाता है कि इसका हल्का कफ निकालने वाला असर होता है, जैसे

कोडीन फॉस्फेट 3 g

नींबू सिरप 200 ml

बेंज़ोइक एसिड सॉल्यूशन 20 ml

क्लोरोफॉर्म स्पिरिट 20 ml

पानी 20 ml

कंपाउंड टार्ट्राज़ीन सॉल्यूशन 10 ml

सिरप 1000 ml बनाने के लिए।

कोडीन फॉस्फेट को तौलें और ज़रूरत हो तो पानी में घोलें, धीरे-धीरे गर्म करें, बेंज़ोइक एसिड सॉल्यूशन, कंपाउंड टार्ट्राज़ीन सॉल्यूशन और क्लोरोफॉर्म स्पिरिट मिलाएं, नींबू का सिरप मिलाएं और ज़्यादा सिरप डालकर वॉल्यूम एडजस्ट करें।
