SURGICAL DRESSINGS ::
The word surgical dressing is used to include all the materials either used alone or in combination to cover the wound The purpose of application of dressing is to protect the wound and favour its proper healing A material which holds the dressing in desired position is known as bandage Fibres are used for the preparation of surgical dressings .
Dressings are meant for the following functions .
(1) To reduce or prevent infections .
(2) To offer protection to healing wound .
(3) To offer mechanical support to the tissues .
Surgical dressings should comply the following requirements as mentioned in pharmacopoeia .
(1) They should be sterilised before use .
(2) They should be stored in dry well - ventilated place at a temperature not exceeding 25.c
(3) They should be used with permitted antiseptics in prescribed concentrations only .
(4) They should not be dyed unless mentioned in the monograph .
(5) Adhesive products should not be allowed to freeze .
(6) There should not be any loose threads fibre - ends in dressings .

सर्जिकल ड्रेसिंग ::
सर्जिकल ड्रेसिंग शब्द का इस्तेमाल उन सभी चीज़ों के लिए किया जाता है जो घाव को ढकने के लिए अकेले या मिलाकर इस्तेमाल की जाती हैं। ड्रेसिंग लगाने का मकसद घाव को बचाना और उसे ठीक से भरने में मदद करना है। ड्रेसिंग को सही जगह पर रखने वाले मटीरियल को बैंडेज कहते हैं। सर्जिकल ड्रेसिंग बनाने के लिए फाइबर का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।
ड्रेसिंग इन कामों के लिए होती हैं।
(1) इन्फेक्शन को कम करना या रोकना।
(2) घाव भरने में मदद करना।
(3) टिशू को मैकेनिकल सपोर्ट देना।
सर्जिकल ड्रेसिंग को फार्माकोपिया में बताई गई इन ज़रूरतों को पूरा करना चाहिए।
(1) इस्तेमाल करने से पहले उन्हें स्टेरिलाइज़ किया जाना चाहिए।
(2) उन्हें सूखी, हवादार जगह पर 25°C से ज़्यादा टेम्परेचर पर स्टोर किया जाना चाहिए।
(3) उन्हें सिर्फ़ तय कंसंट्रेशन में ही परमिटेड एंटीसेप्टिक के साथ इस्तेमाल किया जाना चाहिए।
(4) मोनोग्राफ में बताए जाने तक उन्हें डाई नहीं किया जाना चाहिए।
(5) चिपकने वाले उत्पादों को जमने नहीं देना चाहिए।
(6) ड्रेसिंग में कोई भी ढीला धागा या फाइबर-सिर्हा नहीं होना चाहिए।
