THE EMULSIONS ARE OF THREE TYPES ACCORDING TO THEIR USE THESE ARE :: 

(A) Emulsions for oral administration . 

(B) Intravenous emulsions . 

(C) Emulsions for external application . 

Emulsions for oral administration :: 

These are generally o/w type emulsions and are used for administration of medicinal oils The emulsification helps to mask the disagreeable taste and the oily feel of the medicinal oil and thus increases its palatability e.g. liquid paraffin emulsion . 

LIQUID PARAFFIN EMULSION I.P. 

Liquid paraffin            500.0 ml 
Indian gum in powder   125.0 g .
Tragacanth in powder   5.0 g .
Sodium benzoate           5.0 g. 
Vanillin                         0.5 g .
Glycerin                        125.0 ml . 
Chloroform                     2.5 ml . 
Purified water sufficient to produce 1000 ml. 
Triturate the liquid paraffin and chloroform with the indian gum the tragacanth and the vanillin Add in one quantity 250 ml of purified water and triturate untill a creamy emulsion is formed Add the glycerin and the sodium benzoate dissolve in 50 ml of purified water Add sufficient purified water to produce 1000 ml Mix . 

Intravenous emulsion :: 

The oil soluble sex hormones vitamin A, D and K  are administered as intravenous injections The emulsified oils are also injected as diagnostic aids These emulsions should have small globule size and must be sterile . 

Emulsions for external use :: 

The emulsions for external application may be both o/w or w/o type but o/w type emulsion is preferred when a drug is emulsified its rate of penetration through the skin may get reduced it helps to prolong the action of a drug Generally the emulsions for application to the skin are semi - solid at room temperature and are considered to be an excellent vehicle .

मुंह से लेने वाले इमल्शन:


ये आम तौर पर ओ/डब्ल्यू टाइप के इमल्शन होते हैं और दवा वाले तेल देने के लिए इस्तेमाल होते हैं। इमल्सीफिकेशन दवा वाले तेल के खराब स्वाद और तेल जैसा एहसास छिपाने में मदद करता है और इस तरह इसका स्वाद बढ़ाता है, जैसे लिक्विड पैराफिन इमल्शन।

लिक्विड पैराफिन इमल्शन I.P.


लिक्विड पैराफिन 500.0 ml

इंडियन गम पाउडर 125.0 g

ट्रागाकैंथ पाउडर 5.0 g

सोडियम बेंजोएट 5.0 g

वैनिलिन 0.5 g

ग्लिसरीन 125.0 ml .
क्लोरोफॉर्म 2.5 ml .
1000 ml बनाने के लिए काफ़ी शुद्ध पानी .
लिक्विड पैराफिन और क्लोरोफॉर्म को इंडियन गम, ट्रागाकैंथ और वैनिलीन के साथ पीस लें। एक मात्रा में 250 ml शुद्ध पानी मिलाएं और तब तक पीसें जब तक एक क्रीमी इमल्शन न बन जाए। ग्लिसरीन और सोडियम बेंजोएट को 50 ml शुद्ध पानी में घोलें। 1000 ml बनाने के लिए काफ़ी शुद्ध पानी मिलाएं। मिलाएं।

इंट्रावीनस इमल्शन ::

तेल में घुलनशील सेक्स हार्मोन विटामिन A, D और K को इंट्रावीनस इंजेक्शन के तौर पर दिया जाता है। इमल्सीफाइड तेलों को डायग्नोस्टिक एड्स के तौर पर भी इंजेक्ट किया जाता है। इन इमल्शन का आकार छोटा होना चाहिए और वे स्टेराइल होने चाहिए।

बाहरी इस्तेमाल के लिए इमल्शन ::

बाहरी इस्तेमाल के लिए इमल्शन o/w या w/o दोनों तरह के हो सकते हैं, लेकिन जब कोई दवा इमल्सीफाई की जाती है, तो o/w टाइप का इमल्शन बेहतर होता है। स्किन में इसके घुसने की दर कम हो सकती है। यह दवा के असर को लंबे समय तक बनाए रखने में मदद करता है। आम तौर पर स्किन पर लगाने के लिए इमल्शन कमरे के तापमान पर सेमी-सॉलिड होते हैं और इन्हें एक बहुत अच्छा तरीका माना जाता है।
