In this method the material is crushed by the application of pressure On a small scale size reduction is carried out by using pestle and mortar whereas on a large scale roller mill is used .

Construction ::
It consists of two cylindrical rollers made of stone or metal which are mounted horizontally These rollers are capable of rotation on their longitudinal axis These rollers may be from a few centimetres upto a meter in diameter Generally one of the roller is driven directly while the second one runs freely .
Working ::
The material to be crushed is fed from the hopper into the gap between the two rollers Due to the rotation of these rollers the material is crushed The gap between the rollers can be adjusted to control the degree of size reduction .
Uses ::
The roller mill is used for crushing and cracking of seeds before extraction of fixed oil from the same it is also used to crush the soft tissues to help in the penetration of solvent during the extraction process .

बनाने का तरीका ::
इसमें पत्थर या मेटल के बने दो सिलिंड्रिकल रोलर होते हैं जो हॉरिजॉन्टल लगे होते हैं। ये रोलर अपने लॉन्गिट्यूडिनल एक्सिस पर घूम सकते हैं। ये रोलर कुछ सेंटीमीटर से लेकर एक मीटर डायमीटर तक के हो सकते हैं। आम तौर पर एक रोलर सीधे चलता है जबकि दूसरा फ्री चलता है।
काम करने का तरीका ::
क्रश किए जाने वाले मटीरियल को हॉपर से दो रोलर के बीच के गैप में डाला जाता है। इन रोलर के घूमने से मटीरियल क्रश हो जाता है। साइज़ कम करने की डिग्री को कंट्रोल करने के लिए रोलर के बीच के गैप को एडजस्ट किया जा सकता है।
इस्तेमाल ::
रोलर मिल का इस्तेमाल बीजों को क्रश करने और तोड़ने के लिए किया जाता है, इससे पहले कि उनसे फिक्स्ड तेल निकाला जाए, इसका इस्तेमाल सॉफ्ट टिशू को क्रश करने के लिए भी किया जाता है ताकि एक्सट्रैक्शन प्रोसेस के दौरान सॉल्वेंट के अंदर जाने में मदद मिल सके।
