Coriander yields from 0.3 to 1 % of volatile oil The fixed oil (13%) and proteins (20%) are other contents of the drug Volatile oil contains 90% of D- linalool (coriandrol) and small quatities of L-borneol geraniol and pinene Coriander leaves are rich in vitamin A content 

Uses ::

The fruits as well as volatile oil are used as an aromatic carminative stimulant and flavouring agent Coriander oil is used alongwith purgative to prevent gripping it is an ingredient of compound spirit of orange and cascara elixir 

Substitutes ::

It is substituted by Bombay coriander fruits which contain less volatile oil and are ellipsoidal in shape

धनिया में 0.3 से 1% तक वाष्पशील तेल होता है। स्थिर तेल (13%) और प्रोटीन (20%) इस औषधि के अन्य घटक हैं। वाष्पशील तेल में 90% डी-लिनालूल (कोरिएंड्रोल) और थोड़ी मात्रा में एल-बोर्नियोल, जेरेनियोल और पिनीन होता है। धनिया के पत्तों में विटामिन ए प्रचुर मात्रा में होता है।

उपयोग:

फलों के साथ-साथ वाष्पशील तेल का उपयोग सुगंधित वातहर, उत्तेजक और स्वाद बढ़ाने वाले एजेंट के रूप में किया जाता है। धनिया के तेल का उपयोग रेचक के साथ-साथ ऐंठन को रोकने के लिए किया जाता है। यह संतरे और काजल के अमृत के मिश्रित स्पिरिट का एक घटक है।

विकल्प:

इसका स्थान बॉम्बे धनिया के फलों द्वारा लिया जाता है, जिनमें कम वाष्पशील तेल होता है और ये आकार में दीर्घवृत्ताकार होते हैं।
