Indian hemp comprises 15 to 20% of resin which contains major active euphoric principle 1-3-4 trans tetrahedrocannabinol ( commonly known as THC ) It contains volatile oil trigonelline and choline The resin also contains cannabinol cannabidiol cannabidiolic acid cannabichromene and cannabigerol Indian hemp seeds contain about 20 % of fixed oil .
Identification ::
Shake about 0.1 g of the drug with 5 ml of light petroleum (60-80) and filter To 1 ml of the filtrate add 2 ml of 15 % solution of hydrogen chloride in ethyl alcohol At the junction of the two liquids a red colouration appears After shaking the upper layer becomes colourless and lower layer acquires pink colour which disappears on addition of water .
Uses ::
It is a narcotic sedative and analgesic it has psychotropic properties due to tetrahydrocannabinol At present it is very little used as a drug it causes intoxication euphoria and later mental disturbances .

It should be stored in well closed containers after thorough drying .

लगभग 0.1 g दवा को 5 ml हल्के पेट्रोलियम (60-80) के साथ हिलाएं और फिल्टर करें। 1 ml फिल्ट्रेट में एथिल अल्कोहल में हाइड्रोजन क्लोराइड के 15% सॉल्यूशन के 2 ml मिलाएं। दोनों लिक्विड के जंक्शन पर एक लाल रंग दिखाई देता है। हिलाने के बाद ऊपरी परत रंगहीन हो जाती है और निचली परत गुलाबी हो जाती है जो पानी मिलाने पर गायब हो जाती है। इस्तेमाल ::
यह एक नारकोटिक सेडेटिव और एनाल्जेसिक है। टेट्राहाइड्रोकैनाबिनोल की वजह से इसमें साइकोट्रोपिक गुण होते हैं। अभी इसका इस्तेमाल दवा के तौर पर बहुत कम होता है। यह नशा, खुशी और बाद में दिमागी परेशानी पैदा करता है।

इसे अच्छी तरह सुखाने के बाद अच्छी तरह बंद कंटेनर में स्टोर करना चाहिए।
