Colour : Pale yellow or greenish yellow liquid .
Odour : Reminicent of Lemon .
Taste : Aromatic .
Solubility : Insoluble in water soluble in absolute alcohol and forms slight opalscence in 90 % alcohol .

Chemical Constituents ::
Lemon oil mainly contains terpenes About 90% is + Lemonene and other terpenes 10 % of the oil is represented by oxygenated compounds like citral and citronellal .
Lemon oil has tendency to resinfy and hence should be protected from air and light .

When one volume of recently expressed oil is added to 3 volumes of alcohol it is neutral or only slightly acidic to litmus paper
Uses ::
Lemon oil is used on flavouring agent and in perfumery it is used for the preparation of terepeneless lemon oil .
Terepeneless Lemon Oil ::
It is prepared by concentrating lemon oil in vacuum until most of the terepenes are removed or it is also prepared by solvent partition .
Terpeneless lemon oil contains 40- 50 per cent of citral mainly and other esters like geranyl acetate and linalyl acetate .
Uses ::
It is mainly used as flavour and is twenty times stronger than lemon oil .

केमिकल घटक ::
लेमन ऑयल में मुख्य रूप से टरपीन होते हैं। लगभग 90% + लेमोनीन और दूसरे टरपीन होते हैं। तेल का 10% सिट्रल और सिट्रोनेलल जैसे ऑक्सीजनेटेड कंपाउंड से बना होता है। लेमन ऑयल में रेजिन बनने की आदत होती है और इसलिए इसे हवा और रोशनी से बचाना चाहिए।

केमिकल टेस्ट ::
जब हाल ही में निकाले गए ऑयल की एक मात्रा को 3 मात्रा अल्कोहल में मिलाया जाता है, तो यह लिटमस पेपर के लिए न्यूट्रल या थोड़ा एसिडिक होता है।
उपयोग ::
लेमन ऑयल का इस्तेमाल फ्लेवरिंग एजेंट के तौर पर किया जाता है और परफ्यूमरी में इसका इस्तेमाल टेरेपीनलेस लेमन ऑयल बनाने के लिए किया जाता है।
टेरेपीनलेस लेमन ऑयल ::
इसे वैक्यूम में लेमन ऑयल को तब तक कंसंट्रेट करके बनाया जाता है जब तक कि ज़्यादातर टेरेपीन निकल न जाएं या इसे सॉल्वेंट पार्टीशन से भी बनाया जाता है।
टेरेपीनलेस लेमन ऑयल में मुख्य रूप से 40-50 प्रतिशत सिट्रल और जेरेनिल एसीटेट और लिनालिल एसीटेट जैसे दूसरे एस्टर होते हैं।
उपयोग ::
इसे मुख्य रूप से फ्लेवर के तौर पर इस्तेमाल किया जाता है और यह लेमन ऑयल से बीस गुना ज़्यादा स्ट्रॉन्ग होता है।
