 GRANULES  :: 

The bitter nauseous and unpleasant powders cannot be given in tablet form or in a capsule because a large number of them are required to be taken as a single dose . These powders are not given in liquid form because of stability problem Such medicaments are given in the form of granules The drug is mixed with sugar a flavouring agent and a granulating agent to prepare a coherent mass which is passed through a sieve to convert it into granules and then dried The dried granules are supplied in single - dose sachets which are dissolved in water before taking e.g. granules of antibiotics such as erythromycin nystatin and penicillin salts . 

There are two preparations of granules which are official in I.P. 

Bephenium hydroxynaphthate granules :: 

These contain bephenium hydroxynaphthate a bitter nauseous drug which is insoluble in water it is used as an anthelmintic in the usual strength of 2.5 g of bephenium base per single dose . 

Sodium aminosalicylate granules :: 

These contain sodium amino salicylate which has a sweet saline and unpleasant taste it is used to treat tuberculosis in a dose of 10 to 15 g orally . 

        Granules containing potent substances should not be supplied in bulk because of the risk of wrong dosage Due to this reason Bephenium Hydroxynaphthate Granules and Sodium Aminosalicylate Granules are packed in single dose sachets .

ग्रैन्यूल्स ::

कड़वे, उल्टी लाने वाले और खराब पाउडर टैबलेट या कैप्सूल के रूप में नहीं दिए जा सकते क्योंकि इनकी ज़्यादा मात्रा को एक ही डोज़ में लेना ज़रूरी होता है। स्टेबिलिटी की समस्या के कारण ये पाउडर लिक्विड रूप में नहीं दिए जाते हैं। ऐसी दवाएँ ग्रैन्यूल्स के रूप में दी जाती हैं। दवा को चीनी, एक फ्लेवरिंग एजेंट और एक ग्रैन्यूलेटिंग एजेंट के साथ मिलाकर एक जैसा घोल बनाया जाता है, जिसे ग्रैन्यूल्स में बदलने के लिए एक छलनी से गुज़ारा जाता है और फिर सुखाया जाता है। सूखे ग्रैन्यूल्स सिंगल-डोज़ सैशे में दिए जाते हैं जिन्हें लेने से पहले पानी में घोला जाता है, जैसे एरिथ्रोमाइसिन, निस्टैटिन और पेनिसिलिन सॉल्ट जैसे एंटीबायोटिक्स के ग्रैन्यूल्स।

ग्रैन्यूल्स की दो तैयारियाँ हैं जो I.P. में ऑफिशियल हैं।

बेफेनियम हाइड्रॉक्सीनैफ्थेट ग्रैन्यूल्स ::

इनमें बेफेनियम हाइड्रॉक्सीनैफ्थेट होता है, जो एक कड़वी उल्टी लाने वाली दवा है और पानी में नहीं घुलती। इसका इस्तेमाल कृमिनाशक के तौर पर किया जाता है। इसकी आम ताकत 2.5 g बेफेनियम बेस प्रति सिंगल डोज़ होती है।

सोडियम एमिनोसैलिसिलेट ग्रैन्यूल्स ::

इनमें सोडियम एमिनो सैलिसिलेट होता है जिसमें मीठा खारापन और बुरा स्वाद होता है। इसका इस्तेमाल ट्यूबरकुलोसिस के इलाज के लिए 10 से 15 g की डोज़ में मुंह से दिया जाता है।

जिन ग्रैन्यूल्स में असरदार चीज़ें होती हैं, उन्हें थोक में सप्लाई नहीं करना चाहिए क्योंकि गलत डोज़ का खतरा होता है। इसी वजह से बेफेनियम हाइड्रॉक्सीनैफ्थेट ग्रैन्यूल्स और सोडियम एमिनोसैलिसिलेट ग्रैन्यूल्स को सिंगल डोज़ सैशे में पैक किया जाता है।
