AEROSOL PACKAGING ::
Aerosols may be defined as disperse phase system in which very fine solid particles or liquid droplets get dispersed in the gas which acts as continuous phase These are also called pressurised dosage form .
Advantages of Aerosols ::
1. The medicament can be delivered directly to the affected area such as burnt skin and wound So it minimises the discomfort caused by mechanical or manual application .
2. Absence of air prevents oxidation of the product .
3. The hydrolysis of medicaments can be prevented .
4. Drugs can be given by oral inhalation .
5. The sterility of the products can be maintained .
6. The application of medicament is easier .
7. A fine mist is easily formed for inhalation purpose .
8. Manual contact with medicaments can be avoided .
9. Drugs given by oral inhalation do not pass through G.I.T. Hence its chances of decomposition are less .
Disadvantages of Aerosols ::
1. Aerosols are costly preparations .
2. Some of the propellants are very toxic .
3. The cooling effect of highly volatile propellants may cause discomfort on injured skin .
4. Lot of difficulties are faced in aerosol formulation when the drug is not soluble in propellant .

एरोसोल को डिस्पर फेज़ सिस्टम के तौर पर डिफाइन किया जा सकता है जिसमें बहुत बारीक सॉलिड पार्टिकल या लिक्विड ड्रॉपलेट गैस में डिस्पर्स हो जाते हैं जो कंटीन्यूअस फेज़ के तौर पर काम करता है। इन्हें प्रेशराइज्ड डोज़ेज फॉर्म भी कहा जाता है।
एरोसोल के फायदे ::
1. दवा को सीधे प्रभावित जगह जैसे जली हुई स्किन और घाव पर पहुंचाया जा सकता है, इसलिए यह मैकेनिकल या मैनुअल एप्लीकेशन से होने वाली परेशानी को कम करता है।
2. हवा न होने से प्रोडक्ट का ऑक्सीडेशन रुकता है।
3. दवाओं के हाइड्रोलिसिस को रोका जा सकता है।
4. दवाएं मुंह से सांस के ज़रिए दी जा सकती हैं।
5. प्रोडक्ट की स्टेरिलिटी बनाए रखी जा सकती है।
6. दवा का एप्लीकेशन आसान होता है।
7. सांस के ज़रिए लेने के लिए आसानी से एक महीन धुंध बन जाती है।
8. दवाओं के साथ मैनुअल कॉन्टैक्ट से बचा जा सकता है।
9. मुंह से सांस के ज़रिए दी जाने वाली दवाएं G.I.T. से नहीं गुज़रतीं। इसलिए उनके खराब होने की संभावना कम होती है।
एरोसोल के नुकसान ::
1. एरोसोल महंगी दवाएं हैं।
2. कुछ प्रोपेलेंट बहुत ज़हरीले होते हैं।
3. बहुत ज़्यादा वोलाटाइल प्रोपेलेंट के ठंडे असर से घायल त्वचा पर तकलीफ़ हो सकती है।
4. जब दवा प्रोपेलेंट में घुलती नहीं है, तो एरोसोल बनाने में बहुत मुश्किलें आती हैं।
