Chemical Constituents ::
Nux vomica seeds contain 1.5 to 5 % of bitter indole alkaloids Chief constituents of nux vomica are strychnine and brucine while vomicine a-colubrine pseudo strychnine and strychnicine are also present Apart from seeds other parts of the plant contain alkaloids Seeds also contain 3.0 % of fat Bark contains brucine and traces of strychnine .wood and root of the plant also contain strychnine .

एपिडर्मिस में बहुत मोटे, गड्ढेदार और लिग्निफाइड ट्राइकोम होते हैं। एपिडर्मिस के बाद कोलैप्स्ड सेल्स की एक लेयर होती है। एंडोस्पर्म की पहचान मोटी दीवार वाले पॉलीहेड्रल अनलिग्निफाइड सेल्स से होती है, जिनमें प्लास्मोडेस्मा एल्यूरोन ग्रेन और ऑयल ग्लोब्यूल्स होते हैं। दवा में कैल्शियम ऑक्सालेट क्रिस्टल और स्टार्च ग्रेन नहीं होते हैं।
केमिकल कॉम्पोनेंट ::
नक्स वोमिका के बीजों में 1.5 से 5% कड़वा इंडोल एल्कलॉइड होता है। नक्स वोमिका के मुख्य कॉम्पोनेंट स्ट्राइकिन और ब्रुसीन हैं, जबकि वोमिसिन ए-कोलुब्रिन स्यूडो स्ट्राइकिन और स्ट्राइकिनिसिन भी मौजूद होते हैं। बीजों के अलावा पौधे के दूसरे हिस्सों में भी एल्कलॉइड होते हैं। बीजों में 3.0% फैट भी होता है। छाल में ब्रुसीन और स्ट्राइकिन के ट्रेस होते हैं। पौधे की लकड़ी और जड़ में भी स्ट्राइकिन होता है।
