BENZOIN DESCRIPTION ::
Sumatra Benzoin ::
Colour : It is greyish - brown or grey .
Odour : Aromatic and characteristic .
Taste : Sweetish and slightly acrid .
It occurs in the form of lumps of varying sizes or tears Tears are externally yellowish milky white The surface is uneven when heated fumes of benzoic and cinnamic acids are produced .
Siam Benzoin ::
Colour : yellowish - brown to rusty - brown .
Odour : agreeable and vanilla - like .
Taste : it is sweetish and slightly acrid .
It occurs as hard and brittle masses When heated it is softened and becomes plastic .
Standards ::
1.Benzoic acid content : Not less than 60 % (Sumatra )
: Not less than 12 % ( Siam )
2. Alcohol - soluble matter : Not less than 75 % (Sumatra)
: Not less than 90 % ( Siam )
3. Loss on drying : Not more than 10 %
4. Acid - insoluble ash : Not more than 10 %

रंग: यह ग्रे-ब्राउन या ग्रे रंग का होता है।
गंध: खुशबूदार और खास।

यह अलग-अलग साइज़ की गांठों या आंसुओं के रूप में होता है। आंसू बाहर से पीले-दूधिया सफेद होते हैं। जब गर्म किया जाता है तो बेंज़ोइक और सिनामिक एसिड का धुआं निकलता है।
सियाम बेंज़ोइन ::
रंग: पीला-ब्राउन से ज़ंग जैसा भूरा।
गंध: अच्छी और वनीला जैसी।
स्वाद: यह मीठा और थोड़ा तीखा होता है।
यह सख्त और नाज़ुक चीज़ों के रूप में होता है। गर्म करने पर यह नरम हो जाता है और प्लास्टिक बन जाता है।

3. सुखाने पर नुकसान : 10% से ज़्यादा नहीं
