Benzoin is a balsamic resin obtained from styrax benzoin Dyrand or Styrax paralleloneurus Perkins and other species of Styrax known in the market as Sumatra Benzoin or it may also contain the balsamic resin from Styrax tonkinesis and other species commercially known as Siam Benzoin belonging to family Styraceae it should contain not less than 25 % of total balsamic acids with reference to dry alcohol soluble matter .

Geographical Source ::

Sumatra benzoin is produced from tress grown in South Eastern Asia chiefly Sumatra Siam benzoin is obtained from tress grown in Thailand and Vietnam .

Collection and Preparation for Market ::

Benzoin trees are not grown in India The drug is totally imported from Indonesia Benzoin is a pathological resin and is collected from about 6 years old wild or cultivated trees it is collected by making incisions near the base of the tree The plant is reported to contain neither secretory nor the resinous constituents These are only reduced after injuring the plant The initial produce which is amorphous and yellow is not used in the medicine The next flow which oozes out of the plant is collected and utilized for medicinal purposes This resinous material is allowed to solidify and sun - dried Approximately a single tree produces about 10 kg material .

बेंज़ोइन एक बाल्समिक रेज़िन है जो स्टायरेक्स बेंज़ोइन डायरैंड या स्टायरेक्स पैरेललोन्यूरस पर्किन्स और स्टायरेक्स की दूसरी प्रजातियों से मिलता है, जिन्हें बाज़ार में सुमात्रा बेंज़ोइन के नाम से जाना जाता है या इसमें स्टायरेक्स टोनकिनेसिस और स्टायरेसी परिवार से जुड़ी दूसरी प्रजातियों से मिलने वाला बाल्समिक रेज़िन भी हो सकता है, जिन्हें कमर्शियली सियाम बेंज़ोइन के नाम से जाना जाता है। इसमें सूखे अल्कोहल में घुलनशील पदार्थ के हिसाब से कुल बाल्समिक एसिड का कम से कम 25% होना चाहिए।

कलेक्शन और मार्केट के लिए तैयारी ::

बेंज़ोइन के पेड़ भारत में नहीं उगाए जाते हैं। यह दवा पूरी तरह से इंडोनेशिया से इम्पोर्ट की जाती है। बेंज़ोइन एक पैथोलॉजिकल रेजिन है और इसे लगभग 6 साल पुराने जंगली या खेती वाले पेड़ों से इकट्ठा किया जाता है। इसे पेड़ के बेस के पास चीरा लगाकर इकट्ठा किया जाता है। बताया जाता है कि पौधे में न तो सेक्रेटरी और न ही रेजिन वाले हिस्से होते हैं। ये पौधे को नुकसान पहुंचाने के बाद ही कम होते हैं। शुरुआती प्रोडक्ट जो बिना शेप का और पीला होता है, दवा में इस्तेमाल नहीं होता है। पौधे से निकलने वाला अगला फ्लो इकट्ठा किया जाता है और दवा के कामों के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। इस रेजिन वाले मटीरियल को जमने दिया जाता है और धूप में सुखाया जाता है। लगभग एक पेड़ से लगभग 10 kg मटीरियल बनता है।
