Identification ::
(1) Dilute solution anaesthetizes sweets taste buds .
(2) Leaves shaken with water gives copious foam on addition of dil hydrochloric acid forms voluminous precipitate .

Uses ::
It is used as antidiabetic stomachia stimulant laxative and diuretic The antidiabetic formulations of this drug are commercially available Hypoglycemic effect is due to indirect stimulation of insulin secretion by pancreas .
The leaves of G . hirsutum of Western ghats ( Konkan ) are the substitute for Gymnema .

इसका उपयोग मधुमेह-रोधी, पेट उत्तेजक, रेचक और मूत्रवर्धक के रूप में किया जाता है। इस औषधि के मधुमेह-रोधी फॉर्मूलेशन व्यावसायिक रूप से उपलब्ध हैं। हाइपोग्लाइसेमिक प्रभाव अग्न्याशय द्वारा इंसुलिन स्राव की अप्रत्यक्ष उत्तेजना के कारण होता है।
