पत्तियां हरी होती हैं, जड़ें हल्के भूरे रंग की होती हैं, फूल बैंगनी गुलाबी-सफेद या कारमाइन-लाल रंग के होते हैं। गंध खास होती है और स्वाद कड़वा होता है। विंका एक सीधा, रोमिल जड़ी-बूटी है जिसमें शाखित मूल जड़ होती है। पत्तियां साधारण, पेटियोलेट, अंडाकार या आयताकार, एककोशिकीय, जालीदार, पूरी, भंगुर, नुकीला, शीर्ष और चमकदार होती हैं। फूल ब्रैक्टेट, पेडीसेलेट, पूरे उभयलिंगी होते हैं, आमतौर पर 2 से 3 साइमोस एक्सिलरी क्लस्टर में होते हैं। फल कई काले बीजों वाले फॉलिकल्स होते हैं।

माइक्रोस्कोपिक कैरेक्टर ::
ऊपरी सतह पर आयताकार सेल वाली एपिडर्मिस की एक लेयर दिखती है, जिसमें एक सेल वाले ट्राइकोम होते हैं। ऊपरी एपिडर्मिस के नीचे एक लेयर में पैलिसेड होता है और इसमें कॉम्पैक्ट, लंबे सेल होते हैं। स्पंजी पैरेनकाइमा 5 से 8 लेयर का होता है जिसमें इंटरसेलुलर स्पेस होते हैं।

मध्यशिरा ऊपरी एपिडर्मिस के नीचे और निचली एपिडर्मिस के ऊपर कोलेनकाइमा की उपस्थिति दर्शाती है। केंद्र में जाइलम और फ्लोएम मौजूद होते हैं। निचली एपिडर्मिस पर क्रूसिफेरस स्टोमेटा अधिक बार मौजूद होते हैं। कैल्शियम ऑक्सालेट क्रिस्टल अनुपस्थित होते हैं।
