It is indigenous to india and found wild as well as cultivated throughout india it occurs in west Africa Guatemala and East Africa in india it is grown in kerala Tamil Nadu Karnataka and maharashtra The west Indian lemon grass oil is derived from Cymbopogon citrates This is mainly collected from plants grown in Gujarat maharashtra and punjab .
India produces about 800 tonnes of oil per annum There is stiff competition from Guatemala in the trade of oil .

लेमन ग्रास ऑयल एक वोलाटाइल तेल है जो साइम्बोपोगोन फ्लेक्सुअसस, साइम्बोपोगोन साइट्रेट्स वगैरह पौधों की पत्तियों और हवाई हिस्सों से स्टीम डिस्टिलेशन से मिलता है। ये ग्रैमिनी परिवार से हैं। इसमें 75% से कम एल्डिहाइड नहीं होता है, जिसे सिट्रल के तौर पर कैलकुलेट किया जाता है।
जियोग्राफिकल सोर्स ::
यह भारत का देसी पौधा है और पूरे भारत में जंगली और खेती के तौर पर पाया जाता है। यह पश्चिम अफ्रीका, ग्वाटेमाला और भारत में पूर्वी अफ्रीका में पाया जाता है। यह केरल, तमिलनाडु, कर्नाटक और महाराष्ट्र में उगाया जाता है। पश्चिम भारतीय लेमन ग्रास ऑयल साइम्बोपोगोन साइट्रेट्स से मिलता है। यह मुख्य रूप से गुजरात, महाराष्ट्र और पंजाब में उगाए गए पौधों से इकट्ठा किया जाता है।
भारत हर साल लगभग 800 टन तेल बनाता है। तेल के व्यापार में ग्वाटेमाला से कड़ा मुकाबला है।
