 STARCH USES  :: 

Starch is used as a nutritive demulcent protective and as absorbent Starch is used in the preparation of dusting talcum powder for application over the skin it is used as antidote in iodine poisoning as a disintegrating agent in pills and tablets and as diluent in solid extracts of drugs it is a diagnostic aid in the identification of crude drugs Glycerin of starch is used as an emollient and as a base for suppositories Starch is also a starting material for the commercial manufacture of liquid glucose dextrose and dextrin . 

    Starch is industrially used for sizing of paper and cloth . 

Substitutes and Allied Drugs :: 

Tapioca starch or Cassava or Brazillian arrowroot This starch is obtained from Manihot esculenta ( Euphorbiaceae) and is used as substitute for starch . 

Soluble Starch :: 

It is prepared from the potato or maize starch by chemical process such as treatment with dilute hydrochloric acid so as to destroy the gelatinizing property of the starch microscopically it shows no change in its characters it is soluble in water and forms a transparent mobile liquid . 

Mucilage of starch :: 

mucilage of starch is used as an emollient for skin and is also a base for some enemas .

स्टार्च के इस्तेमाल ::

स्टार्च का इस्तेमाल पोषक, नमी देने वाला, सुरक्षा देने वाला और सोखने वाला होता है। स्टार्च का इस्तेमाल स्किन पर लगाने के लिए टैल्कम पाउडर बनाने में किया जाता है। इसका इस्तेमाल आयोडीन पॉइज़निंग में एंटीडोट के तौर पर, गोलियों और टैबलेट में घुलने वाले एजेंट के तौर पर और दवाओं के ठोस अर्क में पतला करने वाले के तौर पर किया जाता है। यह कच्ची दवाओं की पहचान में डायग्नोस्टिक मदद करता है। स्टार्च के ग्लिसरीन का इस्तेमाल एमोलिएंट के तौर पर और सपोसिटरी के बेस के तौर पर किया जाता है। स्टार्च लिक्विड ग्लूकोज, डेक्सट्रोज और डेक्सट्रिन के कमर्शियल बनाने के लिए भी एक शुरुआती चीज़ है।

स्टार्च का इस्तेमाल इंडस्ट्रियल तौर पर कागज़ और कपड़े की साइज़िंग के लिए किया जाता है।

विकल्प और उससे जुड़ी दवाएं ::

टैपिओका स्टार्च या कसावा या ब्राज़ीलियन एरारूट। यह स्टार्च मैनिहॉट एस्कुलेंटा (यूफोरबियासी) से मिलता है और स्टार्च के विकल्प के तौर पर इस्तेमाल होता है।

घुलनशील स्टार्च ::

इसे आलू या मक्के के स्टार्च से केमिकल प्रोसेस से बनाया जाता है, जैसे कि डाइल्यूटेड हाइड्रोक्लोरिक एसिड से ट्रीटमेंट करके, ताकि स्टार्च की जिलेटिनाइजिंग प्रॉपर्टी को माइक्रोस्कोप से खत्म किया जा सके। माइक्रोस्कोप से देखने पर इसके कैरेक्टर में कोई बदलाव नहीं दिखता। यह पानी में घुलनशील है और एक ट्रांसपेरेंट मोबाइल लिक्विड बनाता है।

स्टार्च का म्यूसिलेज ::

स्टार्च के म्यूसिलेज का इस्तेमाल स्किन के लिए एमोलिएंट के तौर पर किया जाता है और यह कुछ एनीमा के लिए बेस भी है।
