 HYDROUS WOOL FAT (LANOLIN ) CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS :: 

Hydrous wool fat contains esters of cholesterol and isocholesterol with carnaubic oleic myristic palmitic lanoceric and lanopalmitic acids it also contains 50 % of water 

Chemical Tests :: 

Dissolve 0.5 g of hydrous wool fat in chloroform and to it add 1 ml of acetic anhydride and two drops of sulphuric acid A deep green colour is produced indicating the presence of cholesterol . 

Uses :: 

The lanolin is mainly used as water absorbable ointment base it is a very common ingredient and base for several water soluble creams and cosmetic preparations it may also be allergic .

हाइड्रस वूल फैट में कोलेस्ट्रॉल और आइसोकोलेस्ट्रॉल के एस्टर होते हैं, साथ ही कार्नोबिक, ओलिक, मिरिस्टिक, पामिटिक, लैनोसेरिक और लैनोपामिटिक एसिड भी होते हैं। इसमें 50% पानी भी होता है।

केमिकल टेस्ट ::

क्लोरोफॉर्म में 0.5 g हाइड्रस वूल फैट घोलें और इसमें 1 ml एसिटिक एनहाइड्राइड और सल्फ्यूरिक एसिड की दो बूंदें मिलाएं। एक गहरा हरा रंग बनता है जो कोलेस्ट्रॉल की मौजूदगी दिखाता है।

उपयोग ::

लैनोलिन का इस्तेमाल मुख्य रूप से पानी सोखने वाले ऑइंटमेंट बेस के तौर पर किया जाता है। यह कई पानी में घुलने वाली क्रीम और कॉस्मेटिक चीज़ों के लिए एक बहुत ही आम चीज़ और बेस है। इससे एलर्जी भी हो सकती है।
