Cultivation and Collection :: 

Garlic is cultivated in well drained moderately clay loamy soil it needs cool moist climatic conditions during the growth and dry period during maturity Garlic is a hardy perennial herb with narrow flat leaves and bears white small flowers and bul - bils The flat leaves of drug is done by planting bulbs generally in the month of september to late in october it takes about four months for harvesting it is also taken as an alternate crop with many other vegetables for cultivation about 300 kg of bulbs per hectare are required and yield per hectare is about 8000 kg . 

    India produced 286700 tonnes of garlic in 1987 - 88 alone in 80000 hectares .

खेती और कलेक्शन ::

लहसुन की खेती अच्छी पानी निकलने वाली, हल्की चिकनी दोमट मिट्टी में की जाती है। इसे बढ़ने के दौरान ठंडी और नमी वाली मिट्टी चाहिए होती है और पकने के दौरान सूखे मौसम की। लहसुन एक मज़बूत बारहमासी जड़ी-बूटी है जिसकी पत्तियां पतली और चपटी होती हैं और इसमें सफेद छोटे फूल और बल्ब लगते हैं। इसकी चपटी पत्तियां आमतौर पर सितंबर के महीने से अक्टूबर के आखिर तक बल्ब लगाकर उगाई जाती हैं। इसकी कटाई में लगभग चार महीने लगते हैं। इसे कई दूसरी सब्जियों के साथ दूसरी फसल के तौर पर भी उगाया जाता है। खेती के लिए प्रति हेक्टेयर लगभग 300 kg बल्ब की ज़रूरत होती है और प्रति हेक्टेयर पैदावार लगभग 8000 kg होती है।

भारत ने अकेले 1987-88 में 80000 हेक्टेयर में 286700 टन लहसुन का उत्पादन किया।
