Canscora diffusa distributed throughout india is used as substitute for shankhpushpi in gardens it is grown as an ornamental plant for its rosy flowers .
Note ::
There is a controversy in correct identity of shankhpushpi and some scientists have identified shankhpushpi as Evolvulus alsinoides (Convolvulaceae ) .

इस्तेमाल ::
दवा में पूरे पौधे के साथ-साथ ताज़े जूस का भी इस्तेमाल होता है। इसे कड़वा विकल्प और नर्वस टॉनिक माना जाता है। पौधे का ताज़ा जूस पागलपन, मिर्गी और नर्वस कमजोरी में दिया जाता है। अल्कोहल वाले अर्क में रानीखेत बीमारी वायरस के खिलाफ एंटी-वायरल एक्टिविटी होती है।

पूरे भारत में मिलने वाला कैंसकोरा डिफ्यूसा बगीचों में शंखपुष्पी के विकल्प के तौर पर इस्तेमाल होता है। इसे इसके गुलाबी फूलों के लिए सजावटी पौधे के तौर पर उगाया जाता है।

शंखपुष्पी की सही पहचान को लेकर विवाद है और कुछ वैज्ञानिकों ने शंखपुष्पी की पहचान इवोल्वुलस एल्सिनोइड्स (कॉनवोल्वुलेसी) के रूप में की है।
यह एक लेटा हुआ या नीचे की ओर सीधा खड़ा झाड़ी है। तने नीचे से लकड़ी जैसे होते हैं, पत्तियां लगभग एक इंच लंबी, सीधी, आयताकार या म्यूक्रोनेट, मोटे, नीचे की ओर पतले आधार वाले होते हैं। फूल एक साथ या 2-3 डंठल वाले, नीले या सफेद रंग के होते हैं। फूल आने का मौसम जुलाई या नवंबर होता है। जड़ें 5 से 15 cm लंबी, सफेद और तेज गंध वाली होती हैं।
इस दवा में पोटेशियम क्लोराइड के अलावा एक एल्कलॉइड शंखपुष्पीन और उड़नशील तेल होता है। इसका इस्तेमाल ब्रेन टॉनिक और सेडेटिव के तौर पर किया जाता है।
