 LOTIONS  :: 

Lotions are liquid preparations meant for external application without friction They are applied direct to the skin with the help of some absorbent material such as cotton wool or gauze soaked in it Lotions may be used for local action as cooling soothing or protective purposes They are generally prescribed for antiseptic action e,g, calamine lotion . 

CALAMINE LOTION I.P. 

Calamine             150 g 

Zinc oxide             50 g 

Bentonite             30 g 

Sodium citrate     5 g 

Liquefied phenol  5 g 

Glycerin                50 ml 

Rose water of commerce sufficient to produce 1000 ml 

Dissolve sodium citrate in about 700 ml of rose water Triturate the calamine zine oxide and bentonite with a solution of the sodium citrate Add the liquefied phenol and the glycerin Add rose water in sufficient quantity to produce the required volume . 

    Alcohol is sometimes included in aqueous lotions for its cooling and soothing effect e.g. salicylic acid lotion in salicylic acid and mercuric chloride lotion acetone is used as a vehicle The preparation is used for scalp conditions . 

SALICYLIC ACID AND MERCURIC CHLORIDE LOTION B.P.C

Salicylic acid   22.90 g 

Mercuric chloride  1.14 g 

Acetone 125 .00 ml 

Castor oil  10.40 ml 

Alcohol (95 per cent ) to make  1000 ml 

Dissolve the mercuric chloride and the salicylic acid in 500 ml of the alcohol Add the castor oil acetone and sufficient of the alcohol to produce the required volume and mix .

कैलामाइन लोशन I.P.

कैलामाइन 150 g

जिंक ऑक्साइड 50 g

बेंटोनाइट 30 g

सोडियम साइट्रेट 5 g

लिक्विफाइड फिनोल 5 g

ग्लिसरीन 50 ml

1000 ml बनाने के लिए काफ़ी गुलाब जल

लगभग 700 ml गुलाब जल में सोडियम साइट्रेट घोलें। कैलामाइन ऑक्साइड और बेंटोनाइट को सोडियम साइट्रेट के घोल से पीस लें। लिक्विफाइड फिनोल और ग्लिसरीन मिलाएं। ज़रूरी मात्रा बनाने के लिए काफ़ी मात्रा में गुलाब जल मिलाएं।

कभी-कभी पानी वाले लोशन में अल्कोहल को ठंडा और आराम देने के लिए मिलाया जाता है, जैसे सैलिसिलिक एसिड लोशन में सैलिसिलिक एसिड और मरक्यूरिक क्लोराइड लोशन एसीटोन को एक वेहिकल के तौर पर इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। यह तैयारी स्कैल्प की समस्याओं के लिए इस्तेमाल की जाती है।

सैलिसिलिक एसिड और मरक्यूरिक क्लोराइड लोशन B.P.C

सैलिसिलिक एसिड 22.90 g

मर्क्यूरिक क्लोराइड 1.14 g

एसीटोन 125 .00 ml

कैस्टर ऑयल 10.40 ml

अल्कोहल (95 परसेंट) 1000 ml बनाने के लिए

मर्क्यूरिक क्लोराइड और सैलिसिलिक एसिड को 500 ml अल्कोहल में घोलें। कैस्टर ऑयल, एसीटोन और ज़रूरी मात्रा में अल्कोहल डालकर मिलाएं।
