कोलचिकम के बीज गाउट और रूमेटिज्म में इस्तेमाल होते हैं। कोलचिकम के बीज मैलिग्नेंट ट्यूमर को कंट्रोल कर सकते हैं लेकिन बहुत टॉक्सिक होते हैं। कोल्चिसिन का इस्तेमाल पॉलीप्लॉइडी पैदा करने के लिए किया जाता है। इसका इस्तेमाल हॉर्टिकल्चर और मेडिसिनल पौधों की खेती में किया जाता है।

B.P. वैरायटी में कोलचिकम ऑटमनेल लिन पौधे के सूखे बीज और कॉर्म होते हैं। यह एक बारहमासी जड़ी-बूटी है और इंग्लैंड और यूरोप में नमी वाले घास के मैदानों (इसलिए इसे मेडो-केसर के नाम से जाना जाता है) में उगती है। बीज और कॉर्म की कमर्शियल सप्लाई यूगोस्लाविया, चेकोस्लोवाकिया, पोलैंड और हॉलैंड से आती है।
