Uses ::
Peanut oil is a solvent for intramuscular injections and since it resembles to olive oil it is used in the preparation of liniments plasters and soaps .
Being a non - drying oil it is valuable as a lubricant it produces firm and excellent white soap Principally it is used as an edible oil .
Substitutes and Adulteration ::
Peanut oil is adulterated with cotton seed oil or mixed with sesame oil The presence of these oils is indicated by the following tests .
1.Take 2.5 ml of peanut oil and to it add 2.5 ml of alcohol and 2.5 ml of solution of sulphur in carbon disulphide (1%) Heat the mixture . The presence of pink or red colour indicates presence of cotton seed oil
2.Shake 2 ml of arachis oil with 1 ml of hydrochloric acid containing 1% sucrose . keep it aside for 5 minutes The presence of pink colour in the acid layer indicates the presence of seasame oil .

उपयोग ::
मूंगफली का तेल इंट्रामस्क्युलर इंजेक्शन के लिए एक सॉल्वेंट है और क्योंकि यह ऑलिव ऑयल जैसा दिखता है, इसलिए इसका इस्तेमाल लिनिमेंट, प्लास्टर और साबुन बनाने में किया जाता है।
यह तेल सूखने वाला नहीं है, इसलिए यह लुब्रिकेंट के तौर पर कीमती है, यह मज़बूत और बेहतरीन सफेद साबुन बनाता है। मुख्य रूप से इसका इस्तेमाल खाने के तेल के तौर पर किया जाता है।
विकल्प और मिलावट ::
मूंगफली के तेल में कॉटन सीड ऑयल की मिलावट होती है या इसे तिल के तेल के साथ मिलाया जाता है। इन तेलों की मौजूदगी का पता इन टेस्ट से चलता है।
1. 2.5 ml मूंगफली का तेल लें और उसमें 2.5 ml अल्कोहल और 2.5 ml कार्बन डाइसल्फाइड (1%) में सल्फर का घोल मिलाएं। मिश्रण को गर्म करें। गुलाबी या लाल रंग का होना कॉटन सीड ऑयल की मौजूदगी को दिखाता है।
2. 2 ml अरचिस ऑयल को 1 ml हाइड्रोक्लोरिक एसिड के साथ मिलाएं जिसमें 1% सुक्रोज हो। इसे 5 मिनट के लिए अलग रख दें। एसिड लेयर में गुलाबी रंग का होना तिल के तेल की मौजूदगी को दिखाता है।
