यह एक सालाना जड़ी-बूटी है और भारत, अफ़्रीका, उत्तरी अमेरिका, रूस, इटली और फ़्रांस में उगाई जाती है। यह पौधा रेजिन का एक सोर्स है जिसे बिज़नेस में गांजा के नाम से जाना जाता है, जिसके लिए इसे आम तौर पर रूस, इटली और फ़्रांस में उगाया जाता है। इसका इस्तेमाल मुख्य रूप से फाइबर के सोर्स के तौर पर किया जाता है।

इसे जूट की तरह कमर्शियली प्रोसेस किया जाता है ताकि फाइबर मिल सकें। फाइबर 25 से 40 mm लंबे होते हैं और सिरे गोल और कुंद होते हैं।

फाइबर मुख्य रूप से सेल्यूलोज़ से बना होता है।

भांग के फाइबर से फार्मास्यूटिकल तौर पर साई-क्लॉथ, सुतली और रस्सियाँ बनाई जाती हैं ताकि फिल्टर किया जा सके और यह कम ज़रूरी है।
