LINIMENTS

 LINIMENTS  :: 

Liniments are liquid and semi - liquid preparations meant for application to the skin Liniments are usually applied to the skin with friction and rubbing of the skin The liniments may be alcoholic or oily solutions or emulsion Alcohol helps in the penetration of medicaments into the skin and also increases its counter - irritant or rubefacient action Arachis oil is used in some liniments which spread more easily on the skin Soap is also included as ingredients in some of the liniments which helps in easy application of liniment on the skin . 

Generally liniments contain medicaments possessing analgesic rubefacient soothing and counter - irritant or stimulating properties . 

A liniment should not be applied to broken skin because it may cause excessive irritation . 

The following are some of the liniments which are official in Pharmacopoeia of india . 

CAMPHOR LINIMENT 

Camphor  200 g 

Arachis oil  800 g 

Dissolve the camphor in the arachis oil in a closed vessel . 

AMMONIATED CAMPHOR LINIMENT 

Camphor  125 g 

Eucalyptus oil  5 ml . 

Ammonia solution strong 250 ml .

Alcohol ( 90%) sufficient to produce 1000 ml .

Dissolve the camphor and eucalyptus oil in 600 ml of alcohol 90% add the ammonia solution strong gradually with frequent shaking into it Add sufficient alcohol 90% to produce the required volume , 

TURPENTINE LINIMENT 

Soft soap  90 g 

Camphor 50 g 

Turpentine oil (freshly rectified ) 650 ml . 

Purified water sufficient to produce  1000 ml .

Mix the soft soap with 100 ml of purified water Prepare a solution of the camphor in the freshly rectified turpentine oil Gradually add the camphor solution to the soap mixture with trituration till a thick creamy emulsion is formed Add sufficient purified water to produce the required volume mix it thoroughly . 

SOAP LINIMENT 

Soft soap     80 g 

Camphor      40 g 

Lemon grass oil  15 ml .

Purified water     170 ml .

Alcohol ( 90 per cent ) sufficient to produce  1000 ml 

Dissolve the soft soap camphor and lemon grass oil in 600 ml of alcohol (90 per cent ) Add the purified water and sufficient alcohol (90 per cent ) to produce the required volume Set aside for a week and filter .

लिनिमेंट ::

लिनिमेंट लिक्विड और सेमी-लिक्विड चीज़ें होती हैं जो स्किन पर लगाने के लिए होती हैं। लिनिमेंट आमतौर पर स्किन पर रगड़कर और रगड़कर लगाए जाते हैं। लिनिमेंट अल्कोहलिक या ऑयली सॉल्यूशन या इमल्शन हो सकते हैं। अल्कोहल दवाओं को स्किन में अंदर तक जाने में मदद करता है और इसके काउंटर-इरिटेंट या रबेफेशिएंट एक्शन को भी बढ़ाता है। कुछ लिनिमेंट में अराचिस ऑयल का इस्तेमाल होता है जो स्किन पर ज़्यादा आसानी से फैल जाता है। कुछ लिनिमेंट में साबुन भी इंग्रीडिएंट के तौर पर होता है जो स्किन पर लिनिमेंट को आसानी से लगाने में मदद करता है।

आमतौर पर लिनिमेंट में ऐसी दवाएं होती हैं जिनमें एनाल्जेसिक, रबेफेशिएंट, आराम देने वाले और काउंटर-इरिटेंट या स्टिम्युलेटिंग गुण होते हैं।

लिनिमेंट को फटी हुई स्किन पर नहीं लगाना चाहिए क्योंकि इससे बहुत ज़्यादा जलन हो सकती है।

नीचे कुछ ऐसे लिनिमेंट दिए गए हैं जो फार्माकोपिया ऑफ़ इंडिया में ऑफिशियल हैं।

कपूर लिनिमेंट

कपूर 200 g

अरचिस तेल 800 g

एक बंद बर्तन में कपूर को अरचिस तेल में घोलें।

अमोनिया वाला कपूर लिनिमेंट

कपूर 125 g

नीलगिरी का तेल 5 ml

अमोनिया का घोल 250 ml

1000 ml बनाने के लिए काफ़ी अल्कोहल (90%)।

कपूर और नीलगिरी के तेल को 600 ml अल्कोहल 90% में घोलें। इसमें अमोनिया का घोल धीरे-धीरे लगातार हिलाते हुए डालें। ज़रूरी मात्रा बनाने के लिए काफ़ी अल्कोहल 90% डालें।

तारपीन लिनिमेंट

हल्का साबुन 90 g

कपूर 50 g

तारपीन का तेल (ताज़ा निकाला हुआ) 650 ml

1000 ml बनाने के लिए काफ़ी साफ़ पानी। सॉफ्ट सोप को 100 ml शुद्ध पानी में मिलाएं। ताज़े रेक्टिफ़ाइड तारपीन के तेल में कपूर का घोल तैयार करें। धीरे-धीरे कपूर के घोल को साबुन के मिक्सचर में तब तक मिलाएं जब तक गाढ़ा क्रीमी इमल्शन न बन जाए। ज़रूरी मात्रा बनाने के लिए काफ़ी शुद्ध पानी मिलाएं और अच्छी तरह मिलाएं।

सोप लिनिमेंट

सॉफ्ट सोप 80 g

कपूर 40 g

लेमन ग्रास ऑयल 15 ml।

शुद्ध पानी 170 ml।

1000 ml बनाने के लिए काफ़ी अल्कोहल (90 परसेंट)। सॉफ्ट सोप कपूर और लेमन ग्रास ऑयल को 600 ml अल्कोहल (90 परसेंट) में घोलें। ज़रूरी मात्रा बनाने के लिए शुद्ध पानी और काफ़ी अल्कोहल (90 परसेंट) मिलाएं। एक हफ़्ते के लिए अलग रख दें और फ़िल्टर करें।
